Hello all,
Before I start this review a couple of things I’d like to convey:
I have written a book review after almost five months, so pardon me if it is not exactly something you have been reading on Kitabay.
Secondly, to all the new subscribers, thank you for joining this place. This might not be a perfect first-timer read, but feel free to check out my previous reviews. (I swear, I am not bad at this.)
Third Girl was the first Agatha Christie book I read, and though it did not necessarily wow me, it definitely did make me indulge in detective fiction.
The book is 256 pages long and features the great Agatha Christie character, Hercule Poirot. This is one of the books where you’ll see Hercule Poirot present right from the start till the end of the book. It also features Ariadne Oliver.
The book starts on an alarming note where Norma Restarick, a 19-20 years old girl, reaches out to Poirot, believing she might have committed a murder. However, after seeing Poirot she flees, thinking that Poirot is too old to help her. Then begins the story of unraveling the secrets and pursuit to find Norma.
There is no sign of murder throughout the story, just a girl confessing of one. Third Girl gets its name from the situation where three girls live together in a shared flat. One is a secretary, the second is an artist, and the third, confess to a murder she thinks she has done, and then woosh! disappears.
The book comes to me as a rather complex story. What I would acknowledge about it is the presence of Poirot throughout and how it suited perfectly to be my first detective story. It was a short read and fascinated me until I read more of Agatha Christie.
One of the most fascinating quotes that I came across was,
Where there is murder, anything can happen.
(Which is literally true for almost all A.G. novels.)
I’d rate this 3/5.
Thanks for reading! :)
